I am a large male (tall and wide) that is flying Aer Lingus from Boston to Europe in May. When I fly in US, I often buy two seats to ensure comfort for me and my neighbor. Even though it is expensive, it is still 60% of business/first class, which could accommodate a person of my size. Aer Lingus told me that they would sell me two seats in economy, but that "the armrests do not fully retract." They havent answered my follow-up questions. I have never seen the armrest NOT retract, except on aisle, emergency, and bulkhead rows. I'm hoping that they simply do not FULLY retract into the space between the seats. This is often the case. Does anyone recall this feature on Aer Lingus? Thanks a ton for your input. Richard
I flew Aer Lingus last summer from Boston. I was in an aisle seat. The armrest between mine and the center did not retract because that was where the controls for my seat were located- in a way that made them inaccessible if the center-seat passenger was using the armrest (you had to flip up the armrest to get to the controls). More importantly, the seats were extremely tight. I'm shorter so I didn't have too much trouble but it pained me to see the over 6' father and sons two rows up. They were literally pinned into their seats. Throw into the experience that the video displays on multiple seats were not working (including mine) and the plane was extremely dirty.
I would never willingly fly Aer Lingus again.
That is disappointing, extremely valuable information for me. Thanks for sharing. I'll have to go business class or take a different airline. Happy traveling!
look at flying out of canada, paying in canadain dollars is a big savings. Also "club class" on Airtransat is affordable and comfy( its like premium economy) even two seats in economy is cheap, and arm rest retract in most rows( not bulkhead)
