Aer Lingus reviews?

We are traveling this August to Scotland. Which airlines is best. Aer Lingus is a good price but has terrible reviews. Also, how much time show we allow between connecting flights in Europe?

Last August we flew on Aer Lingus from San Francisco to Dublin. We sat in economy and it was fine. I would allow ample time between flights because you never know if your flight will be delayed. Will your flights be on one ticket?

I have flown & enjoyed Aer Lingus several times, but last year was not a good experience. The flight to Dublin from Chicago had a last minute equipment change (sending plane back to be refit was their excuse.) None of the electrics worked in my row and it was business class. I hoped for better on the way back, but it was a new plane the NEO type of Air Bus which is only one aisle with 3 seats each side & it was completely full. I had ordered a vegetarian meals and did get that for the first meal, but for their 2nd service only a chicken burrito type thing was available. I am not sure I will fly them again. BTW, the connections in Dublin worked great both outbound and home. I think there was about 90 minutes in each case.

We flew to Dublin with them and I have no complaints, we liked the 2-4-2 configuration of our plane which allowed hubby and I to sit together and not worry about someone sitting next to us. My video equipment did not work coming home and they moved us to a 4 seater section with no one else in the row with a working video, we were happy. Everything was on time, comfy and food was good.

We flew Aer Lingus last week from London Heathrow to Ireland after flying from Denver to Heathrow on British Airways. The Aer Lingus leg went well. If you’re looking for comparison alternatives, see what Virgin Atlantic or British Airways would cost. There’s also easyJet (British) and RyanAir (Irish) that could be cheap on the surface, but add-on fees and a potentially poorer flight experience could negate that. And some of these require a transfer to a different London airport, which costs more and eats up time.

If you’re connecting at Heathrow, allow an hour and a half at the very minimum, and that’s pushing your luck. Two hours is better but still cutting it fairly close. Three hours is plenty. Other airport connections in Europe could need the full 3 hours.

I flew Air Lingus to Ireland in 2018 and had such rude service from the stewardesses that I will never fly them again. I couldn’t even get her to bring me a drink after asking several times, and I’m not a high maintenance passenger.

I flew in Business thanks to miles and felt it was a solid airline, if not spectacular. DUB airport is smaller than most European hubs and quick to navigate, gates are only a short walk from each other, and to Scotland you would clear immigration at DUB.

If your are US based you will also clear US immigration at DUB on your return leg which can be useful, although potentially problematic in case of a very short connection. We had 1h40m to connect and it was no problem.

One downside is Aer Lingus does not have many flights to most airports they serve, often only one, which means the airport staff is stretched thin and delays can cascade easily if the inbound plane is late. Our transatlantic leg was 1 hour late into DUB but fortunately we had a four hour layover.
