Aer Lingus.. any familiarity with this Airline?

Love Aer Lingus (4 trips now)!

Aer Lingus is Ireland's national airline. I flew from Dublin to Nice in 2005. The service was excellent.

Unless I've never heard of the airline I grab the flight if the fare is cheap. Go for it.

We've made 4 trips to Ireland, all on Aer Lingus, and have never had a problem.

Recently flew Aer Lingus, JFK-Dublin-Rome. Great service, very clean airplane, on-time. Not to mention great price. Would fly with them again.

I fly EI from Frankfurt to Dublin quite frequently. As a matter of fact I've done so for 11 years now. In that time the airline has changed from a national carrier that was a oneworld member to a Ryanair in green livery to now a value airline that offers inexpensive tickets and a decent service - if you pay for it. You have to pay for even the first piece of luggage, pay for early seat ion, pay even more if you want an exit row seat - but at least you can do all of that if it's important to you. On board they serve warm and cold sandwiches, even a tray of full Irish breakfast, hot and cold drinks at pretty fair prices. A half liter bottle of water is around €1.50, a coffee or tee is around €2.20, a sandwich around €4.00 and they even serve beers to those who need it. They fly from real airports to real airports, offer self-service check-in online or at kiosks in the terminal... I like the airline.

The rules can be different when flying internationally from the US. Flying from the US, you get a full dinner meal and a light breakfast (from Chicago, anyway) at no extra charge. The last time I flew with them (2007) there was no charge for a single checked bag, though that may have changed. I think flying from Frankfurt to Dublin, it's treated like a "domestic" flight.

My round trip flight from JFK to Venice (thru Dublin) was decent, but changing planes in Dublin was an absoluite nightmare due to numerous security stops. Plus, they lost BOTH of our suitcases for two days!

Thank you all for your suggestions and comments. I bit the bullet and booked my flights Aer Lingus JFK-DUB-ROMA going and then coming back, Aer Lingus PARIS-DUB-Chicago. My Alaska Air miles got me pretty decent connections from Seattle, so I ended us using 25,000 FF miles for the domestic portion and paid $837 for the Aer Lingus flights across the pond. I will have to be extra vigilent in packing light this time round. It is half the amount of time this trip as it was for my last one. It will be 10 days in Sept. 2012 with 8 days of touring. 3 1/2 days each in Rome and Sorrento and 1 full day in Paris with my friends from Chicago. Should be fun. I will try to see 3 or 4 wonderful highlights of Paris and know that I will come back again.

I flew Aer Lingus to Ireland 2 years ago and thought they were great. Our flight crew was friendly, served many snacks and meals, and our plane arrived into Shannon, Ireland an hour and 15 minutes early due to a strong tail wind. The entertainment system on the seatback was fantastic; there were plenty of movies, TV shows and games to keep us entertained.

Linda, you should not have to be extra vigilant in packing. Aer Lingus's baggage allowances to Europe are pretty standard. One carry on bag under 22# that is 22in x 16in x 8in maximum plus one checked bag under 50#. You should be golden, although 8" is kind of thin if you are going with carry on luggage only.
