We need to spend one night in Rome before our cruise. Any advice would be welcome. Also, if you have advice on the transportation to the dock we would appreciate it.
Maria, What type of Hotel are you interested in? I prefer to stay close to Termini for ease of transportation, and would recommend either Hotel Sonya or Hotel Aberdeen. Both are within walking distance to Termini. For information on getting from Rome to Civitavecchia, have a look at This Website. as there's good information listed there on the various ways to get to the Port. You may find if helpful to have a look at Rick's new Cruise Book as it may save you some money on shore excursions. Happy travels!
Second Ken's suggestion. Take the train from the airport. And the next day the train to Civit.... for the cruise. We have done it four times and it is easy and cheap.
We stayed at the River Palace Hotel in Rome (August, 2011). It was so convenient. We could walk to the Spanish Steps, the Victor Emanuel, the Fountain of Trevi, Pantheon, etc. We loved the hotel. We stayed there for 6 nights. They even arranged for a taxi for us, both directions from the airport. It has great reviews on Trip Advisor.
