Frankfurt Airport Train station

We will be catching the train from Frankfurt Airport to Rothenburg in a couple of days - arriving early afternoon in Frankfurt. Can someone please help me with blow by blow instructions as to how to find the trains station in the airport(and which one) to catch the train to Rothenburg? Thanks!

There is no direct train from Frankfurt airport to Rothenburg odT. Any connection will require you to go to Würzburg, then take a regional train south from Würzburg to Steinach where you will catch a small shuttle train to Rothenburg. There are two possibilities for Frankfurt airport to Würzburg. 1. If you are willing to pay more for the fastest, most luxurious connection, you can go by ICE direct from the airport to Würzburg. To make that connection, look for the signs in the hall of Terminal 1 directing you to the Fernbahnhof. You'll go from a 2nd floor mezzanine in Terminal 1, through a pedestrian bridge across the access road to the building across the street from the terminal, then follow the hallway through the building out to the Fernbahnhof. There is a ticket counter in the Fernbahnhof, to the far left end as you enter the atrium part of the upper station. 2. A less expensive, albeit slower (½-1 hr longer) connection leaves from the Regionalbahnhof, under the building across the access road from Terminal 1. You get to the Regionalbahnhof by going down stairs just inside the outside wall of the hall, through a "mall" under the street. Buy an RMV ticket from the ticket counter to Kahl am Main. Also buy a Bayern-Ticket from the counter for 28€ (2 people) or from an automat for 26€ (2 people). Use the RMV ticket for the S-Bahn to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof where you board an RE (Regional Express) to Frankfurt. The RMV ticket takes you to Kahl. At Kahl, you will be in Bavaria ( Bayern), and you can use the Bayern-Ticket the rest of the way to Würzburg and from there to Rothenburg.

JR, relax. You're going to Germany, not Zarafshan. Most speak English and there will be plenty of sign in the airport to help. Here's a map of the airport: http://www.frankfurt-airport.com/content/frankfurt_airport/en/directions/airport_maps1/terminal_1_2.html To the best of my knowledge, the station you want is the Fernbahnhof. Follow people from your plan through passport control and through the baggage claim, then look for pictograms of trains or the DB logo. It will say, in German and (I believe) English, "Fernbahnhof" (Long distance trains) on them and point you where you need to go. From there, you need to hop a train. The journey takes 3 hours and 20 minutes according to bahn.de (presuming you mean Rothenburg ob der Tauber. If you mean another Rothenburg, the following information is inaccurate) and requires two changes of train. They depart roughly every half hour to hour. The train you want is something like this: Frankfurt(M) Flughafen Fernbf to Würzburg Hbf 10:29 -> 12:02 Würzburg Hbf to Steinach(b Rothenb) 12:41 -> 13:25
Steinach(b Rothenb) to Rothenburg ob der Tauber 13:35 -> 13:49

JR, I've travelled that route, and my advice would be to use the Fernbahnhof option that Lee described. After a long international flight, there's no way I wanted to add any time in getting to Rothenburg by using a slower train. You might find it helpful to have a look at THIS Website. You'll probably find that everything becomes somewhat apparent when you arrive there. Cheers!

If you try to follow written, step-by-step directions from your terminal to the Fernbahnhof, you will almost certainly get lost. The way is somewhat labyrinthine. However, if you follow the pictogram signs, it's easy. At the Fernbahnhof, the large departure board will indicate the track (Gleis) for your train.

Which airline are you flying into Frankfurt? That determines which terminal and concourse you're likely to arrive at which then decides which way to take to the train station...

If you are flying to Frankfurt on Lufthansa or one of the Star Alliance airlines, you will arrive at Terminal 1 (Concourses A, B, or C). After immigration, just proceed down the concourse to the arrivals hall and look for the signs to the stations. The stairs to the regional station ( Regionalbahnhof) are against the outer wall, just inside the street. The pedestrian bridge to the Fernbahnhof goes from the 2nd floor mezzanine. There are escalators and stairs near the street side wall on the left hand side of the hall (looking out). If you arrive on most other airlines, you will come into Terminal 2 (Concourses D & E). After retrieving your luggage, look for sign to the "Skyline". It's a people mover that goes from the top floor of Terminal 2 to the top floor of Terminal 1. You'll have to go up escalators to get to it. When you get off at Terminal 1, go down the stairs into the hall and look for the signs.
