What is the best way to get to Venice from Athens. We will be leaving 11 Nov. and staying in Venice for a few days.

Your choices are to fly or to take a 3-hour bus ride to Patras and catch a ferry from there to Venice. Downside of the ferry is that the Sunday ferry from Patras (November 11 is a Sunday) doesn't get to Venice until Tuesday morning. The train system in Greece is unreliable because of major service cutbacks due to their financial crisis, and was never a good option to begin with for the trip you're taking. Aegean Air flies nonstop Athens-Venice, but according to their website they're stopping the service in mid-October. If you fly in November, you'll be stopping over on the way, most likely in Rome. Thanks. We found the same thing. We decided time was important and booked Alitalia from Athens to Venice connecting in Rome
