8pm arrival-12 hr layover in Frankfurt. What to do?

First trip abroad. Traveling with my teen daughter. What can 2 females do safely at night from Frankfurt airport? Finding lots of ideas for daytime, but not at night.

Kim, how old is your daughter? Closer to thir-teen or to nine-teen? Also what weekday and month would it be?

Kim, if you're going to be there on April 7th check www.luminale.de (English language button is on the top left hand side) which is a free outdoor event taking place at night from April 6-11. Afterwards you could indulge in local cuisine and maybe a glass of Frankfurt's famous apple wine. Are you planning on sleeping at the airport? Or are you looking for affordable accommodation for that short night?

Wish we were there on the 7th for that-we will be there actually on March 31st -April 1st. Planning to sleep at the airport. Any suggestions about doing so?

Kim, there is a huge carnival called "Dibbemess" going on while you're here. Historically Dibbemess means pottery fair and still today you can see and buy all sorts of regional handcrafted pottery. But it has transformed in a full-scale carnival with ferris wheels, roller coasters, bumper cars... you name it. It's open until midnight and with plenty of police attending the event it is very safe fun. If you think spending a few hours at the carnival would be a fun thing for you guys to do there is a very affordable clean but basic hotel only 3 underground stations away from the fair. Check www.hrs.com and look for hotel "Jaguar City". You can use underground from the airport to the carnival (1 change only) and from the carnival to the hotel (no changes) and back to the airport (again 1 change only). The hotel is in a totally unspectacular but safe neighborhood.
