We are taking the train from Lesce-Bled to Munich. Do I need to make seat reservations? The ticketing system will allow a reservation or not when buying a ticket. Just wondered if I need to spend the extra money or there would be seats available.
I did this exact trip at the beginning of June (with a 24 hour stop over in Salzburg). I bought tickets online about 60 days in advance (great deals if you buy early on bahn.com, about 70 euro for a first class ticket). The 9:53 train was not full when it got to Lesce-Bled but it might be depending on the time of year. Since I stayed overnight in Salzburg, I caught the 13:00 RailJet to Munich - not crowded at all and no seat reservations allowed for that train anyway. I don't think you can buy train tickets in Lesce-Bled station, so you should buy them ahead of time regardless. Be advised if you take a train that switches at Villach - there was some track work so they stopped at Villach Westbahnhof, NOT the main station. You had to take a bus to the main station to switch trains - make sure to have a decent connection time for that.
from lake bled you may find taking bus back to LJU, and from there train to munich is better. there is no confusing train changes, and cost is about the same. the bus station is next to the train station in LJU. There is a tourist info office along the lake not far from the casino and you can book train ticket from their computer.
Thanks to the both of you - I booked the ticket today and added a seat reservation since I found out it will be the Munich Oktobertfest for the date we are traveling. The train we will be picking up in Lesce-Bled is a straight through with no train changes so there is no need to go to Ljubljana.
