7a.m. flight out of Venice

Need suggestions on getting from Albergo Guerrato to Marco Polo airport at 5 a.m. I am not sure about transports at 4:30ish in the morning. :)

The buses begin running from the Piazzale Roma, a short walk from the Guerrato, to the airport before 5:00 a.m.

Lisa, there are two bus lines that depart the Piazzale Roma for the Airport. The first ACTV #5 bus departs at 4:40am and arrives at the airport at 5:01am. The next #5 bus departs at 5:40am. That's too late. The first ATVO bus departs at 5:00am. The second bus departs at 5:40am. Again, too late. Now the fun part. The daily vaporettos don't begin until 5:00am. So, to catch the 4:40am bus, you need to catch the last night vaporetto (Linea N). Second problem, only the #1 and the N (night vaporetto) stop at Rialto Mercato. For the vaporetto to the Piazalle Roma journey, you will need to catch the last Linea N night vaporetto that stops at the Rialto Mercato stop at 4:36am. It arrives at Piazzale Roma at 4:50am. That gives you 10 minutes to catch the 5:00am ATVO bus to the airport. I think that you can pay onboard (5Euro). The next earlier Linea N vaporetto stops at the Rialto Mercato at 3:56am. Here's the link. http://www.actv.it/pdf/navigazione/linea_N.pdf (scroll down to second chart). Some will recommend the Alilaguna. First, it doesn't stop at the Rialto Mercato stop. Second, it doesn't start service until 6:46am. Finally, there is the water taxi. Your hotel can easily arrange one to be at the hotel at anytime of the morning. The fare ranges between 90E-110E for up to 8 people. With planes departing quite early at Marco Polo, the taxi business is quite good. People that take this taxi run say it's expensive but unforgettable. I call it the James Bond ride that slips through the canals as the sun begins to rise and the city begins to wake up.

WOW! Larry, thank you very much! I had trouble figuring out the night vaporetto system. This looks like the most affordable way to go. But I REALLY like the idea of the water taxi. It would be a wonderful way to wind up our visit to Italy. Just have to think about the finances a bit. Thanks again, you have been very helpful.

Lisa, perhaps you can find other travelers where you are staying to share the water taxi ride. It's about the same cost to ride the famous gondolas in the evening and many people link up to share the ride.
