I had no problem booking Renfe train tickets on line a couple of months ago, and I printed my tickets. Now I just don't know what to do with them. When I was at Sants station today I bought a Media Distance ticket to Figueres in the machine, and I needed that type of ticket to enter the platforms......what do I do since my internet ticket is in a different form? Do I need to exchange it for a little ticket to use in the automatic gates? Thanks in advance - I'm off to Bilbao tomorrow.
Good - maybe the other system is for medium distance and commuter trains. I'm going direct from Barcelona to Bilbao on an Alvia train - it's a high speed train but can also use the other (non-high speed) tracks. That's what I read; I don't know more than that. Based on your description, I hope it will be that obvious when I get there. Very early :(
Kia, what does the ticket look like, and what type of train is it for? Are you taking the AVE to Madrid and then on from there? When I bought AVE tickets from Renfe, the printable ticket was all we needed. There was no automatic gate or turnstile to enter the waiting area or platform. Instead, you showed your ticket to a person, and put your bags through the screener to enter the waiting area. Once they opened the gate to the train, we showed our tickets to the gate attendant to go through to the train. It was the same for all AVE trains we took (including Barcelona Sants to Madrid Atocha), and also the train from Granada to cordoba, which is not AVE.
