Hi. We're 3 couples doing some early planning for a trip in Sept 2012 and wondering if this is possible..... We'd like to pick up a van in Venice and spend several days driving through Slovenia and Croatia before dropping off the van back in Sorrento. Would there be fees involved for leaving Italy? Does anyone have a recommendation as to which car hire company would be the best option here? I also have a query regarding car trains in Slovenia but I'll post that as another question. Many thanks for any contributions.

Hi Kathy. No fees to leave Italy, but countries you can take the care are restricted; varies by company. For instance, I recently rented a care thru Hertz; OK to take it to Slovenia but not Croatia. Do some checking with various companies.
