7 hours in Southampton -- what to do

We disembark from a cruise about 9am but our flight isn't out until 5:20pm. We will, of course, have our bags with us but plan to only have 1 checked each and 1 total carry on so not too bad to schlep around. Looking for something to do besides sit in the airport or a café for hours.

Presumably you are going to LHR for a US bound flight?

If so, I suspect you will have far fewer than 7 hours to fill

Our flight is out of Southampton at 5:20 to Opolo.

I would nip up the road to Winchester, think its about 30 or 40 by train from Southampton docks. A beautiful historic town, lots to see, the cathedral, water medows, King Arthurs Round Table etc

Or visit Portsmouth or the New Forest. Just don't stay in Southampton, there's nothing of interest. Personally I would visit Winchester, one of my favourite cities. However, don't forget that you need to be at the airport at least two hours before your flight so you don't have much time to utilise.

Thanks for the input. I'll check into visiting the recommended towns.

If you'd rather stay in Southampton, there are a couple of museums you could spend some time visiting. Google for info. I have only been to the Southampton City Art Gallery. It is small but good for passing an hour or two. There are, of course, a lot of pubs. A quick google will give you a selection. We went to the Red Lion, (or was it the Golden Lion?) and it was OK but not recommendable. The West Quay Taxi company will pick you up at the ship and take you for a tour of the New Forest, if you arrange it ahead of time. Personally, much as I love Winchester, you would have so little time there it would not be worthwhile. My considered opinion only.

We just spent 3 days in Southampton after our transatlantic cruise. If you can find a place to store your bags, the Sea City Museum is Interesting (Titanic). There is a huge park with an old historic pub called the Cowsherd not far from downtown-2 miles..
