We are renting a car in Paris at the Montparnasse rail station on a Monday morning in late September. From there we are driving to Brittany, near Vannes. How hard is it to get out of Paris from Montparnasse?
Assuming it's the Hertz joint, the only hard part is getting started. You'll have to go north on Ave Maine a bit, hook the first right (Rue Depart, maybe), find a way to reverse directions, then head back to the south on Maine. Press on to the first giant intersection aiming to get straight across (no traffic circle) onto Gen LeClerk. In about a half mile you'll come to a fork. Take the right (smaller) road, duck under the Peripherique beltway and hang a left. There'll be a ramp onto the Autoroute de Soleil, take it, NOT the Peripherique. (It'll be obvious, the Peripherique is going clockwise on that side, you want to go east/counterclockwise). The first big exit is to the A6a, take it. It will become the E05. Stay with the E05 until you're past Orly (there's a dog-leg in there, but stick with the route number). Also, you can follow the signs toward Chartres. Halfway between Orly and Chartres, split off the E05 onto the E50, now following the signs toward Le Mans. After that it's all down hill. Don't use the stinking gps getting out of Paris unless it has a compass feature. If it has that feature use it and keep working south until you get under the Peripherique and you'll be fine. If your car place is not by the Hertz place, worm your way onto Ave Maine and press on. You can't miss Maine, it's the only big road in the area going slightly east of south.
Thanks, Ed. I was hoping you would respond. We are renting from Hertz, so these directions are just what we needed.
