Venice to Munich

Recommendation. Stay night in Venice and take early day train to Munich or take night train to Munich? We are meeting friends in Munich June 17th.

I guess it depends on whether you think you can sleep on the train and whether you want to miss the "scenic" Brenner Pass (I was not impressed with the Brenner Pass, which only rises to 4500'. But, then, I'm from Colorado and have special expectations.) The early day trains all have a change at Verona. You have to take an Italian train from Venice to Verona where you meet the Eurocity train to Munich. You can get advance purchase, discount Europa-Spezial fares as low as €39 from Verona, but you would have to pay for Venice to Verona separately. The first direct EC from Venice to Munich with that fare all the way leaves Venice at 13:34. The night train goes direct from Venice to Munich, and with advance purchase you can get discount Sparnight fares including your overnight accommodations. See the German Rail website.
