Without knowing the cost of flying to Strasbourg vs "somewhere else", there's no way to answer that question. However, I would suspect that flying into Frankfurt would be a lot less, so taking the Lufthansa bus from FRA to Strasbourg (€55 one way per adult) might be better. Two people can do it by regional train for €53 (with a Rheinland-Pfalz and a Baden-Württemberg ticket) and local tickets from the airport to Mainz (€3,90 pP) and from Kehl, Germany, to Strasbourg (€3,80 pP).

Last Dec we flew into Strasbourg via Amsterdam. It was convenient and easy. Strasbaurg is a very small airport but a direct rail connection to the city.

Hi Dee, Are you flying into Paris? If so, from Gare de l'Est (Paris Est) a direct TGV train to Strasbourg (same as Paris Est TGV to Metz) is available, ca. 2:20. I've done this as a day trip. If you want to return to Paris from Strasbourg the same day or whenever and are told that all Strasbourg-Paris trains (TGV) are sold out, totally, then book a seat for the Strasbourg- Arras TGV, in the Nord Pas-de-Calais area. When you get to Arras, take the TGV back to Paris Nord, (it's 40 mins and involves a little back-tracking.
