All answers will be welcoming to me...we are two women, who will land in Trieste from Toronto and have to make our way down to Pula ..what would be our options...and cheapest? We will be arriving at 2:30 pm...we do not want to spend an arm and a leg getting there..Thanks in advance for your answers
There are 4 buses a day from Trieste to Pula. Other option would be to rent a car, but the bus would undoubtedly be cheaper. Distance is 111 Km. http://www.croatiatraveller.com/Istria/PulaBuses.htm
Thanks so much Tom, and which will be the better way to travel once in Istra, train or buses to see the coastline, and scenery?
There is a good answer to your question here: http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Europe/Croatia/Istria/Transportation-Istria-TG-C-1.html Looks like the train system is antiquated and buses are far preferable if you're going to rely on public transportation.
You can check bus schedules from Trieste to Pula at www.autostazionetrieste.it. Found that handy website a few days ago while reseaching buses from Trieste to Piran. The airport bus goes to the same bus station from which the bus to Pula departs. There are currently 4:15pm and 6:00pm departures for Pula, with the bus trip taking around 2.5 hours. As Tom says, bus is a better option than train once in Istria. However, destinations other than some coastal towns can be difficult to reach by bus. If you want to explore inland towns, consider renting a car for a day or two. I had a car in Istria and was able to see much more than had I relied on buses. Uniline, a Croatian company, offers reasonable daily rates and will bring the car to you (like Enterprise does in the U.S.). A few of the large U.S. rental companies also have locations in downtown Pula.
Thanks again for all the information...while we are in Pula we thought we might go to France for one week and to Greece for another..what might be the best way to travel so we can see the beautiful coast line by ferry to Greece and does it stop at different ports? Train or bus to France for one week
While France and Greece may look close to Pula on a map, the distances and travel times are fairly long. You may be able to find airfare that's comparable or even lower than the cost of train, bus or ferry, and flying would save you considerable travel time.
There's no ferry to Greece--it's a very long way.
