I have 6 days to travel to North of Spain from Paris by train. Can't wait til Sept! I'm thinking of staying 2 nights in Lourdes, 1 night in Arles. Which other cities should i go? Any suggestions? and what pass should i get?
many thanks in advance
I hope you have the opportunity to be in Barcelona 9/20-9/24. This is the projected time this year for the Le Merce Festival - the largest of the year. It takes mostly in the La Rambla area. Lots of parades and music. We were there during the festival last year. As for a pass, how much overall train travel are you planning in France and Spain? Note that on the TGV trains in France, seats to passholders are limited and there is a 9Euro supplemental reservation fee. Says so on the Eurail website. As for the need for a pass, I'm not seeing much train travel from your information above. If you plan carefully, I can see some great fares in France if you are willing to lock in firm travel dates and times in advance. I can see fares as low as 25Euro from Paris to Lourdes. This is a 6.0hr-6.5hr. train run with some runs taking 8.0hrs. As for other suggestions for France, I would suggest Beaune in the heart of Burgundy. Also, will you be renting a car. You could take the train to Beaune and then travel south to Provence, tour Provence and turn your car in in Nimes. The car rental places are right in the train station. From Nimes, you take the train to Barcelona. I can see fares as low as 45Euros for this run. These are just thoughts.
many thanks for the advice! I plan to only train around France and Spain. Have intended to go to San Sebastian and then Bilbao.
Will try to squeeze in Barcelona! I think I will need a holiday from my holiday!
