We'd love to spend time in Sicily before going on a cruise. Is there boat transportation between Sicily (Polermo?) and Civitaveccia? What would be the best airport to fly into before going to Sicily? Is there an International airport in Sicily?

You can fly direct from FCO to Palermo-we did, however don't remember if it was Easyjet or AirBerlin, and it was cheap!

Flying is cheap and easy. I flew Air One from FCO to Palermo for under $100 - 45 minute flight. Meridiana also offers inexpensive flights. Specials are offered periodically. Just monitor the airline websites and buy when you see a good deal.

If you are going to South or East Sicilia, you might consider flying to Catania, home of many low-cost airlines. Perfect to reach Mt. Etna, Val del Notto, Modica, Siracusa, Enna, Taormina.
