The cost of a cab to/from FCO to Rome center is 40 euro. This is set by law and is quite prominently displayed in cabs, at least the two I used last week in Rome. Be sure you take the white cab with the SPQR sign on the side. These are Roman cabs and must abide by the pricing requirements. Sometimes they will charge 1 euro for each piece of luggage placed in boot, but we didn't experience that this trip. The ride from near our hotel to the airport cost exactly 40 euro, but I did give him a 4 euro tip.

The local train to which Frank referred does not stop at Termini. It stops at Trastevere, Ostiense, Tuscolana, Tiburtina, and Nomentana. The fare is 8.00 EUR.

Two choices from Rome airport Leonardo Express, direct at 14E/person. Local train (FR1) from airport makes a couple of stops before Termini about 6E. To Civit... train 3 to 4 per hour, 45 to 1 hr. 15 - depending on train. Range of 6 to 12E depending on train. If returning to Rome after the cruise purchase RT tickets in Termini. Save a lot of waiting time on return.

There are frequent trains from Rome Termini to Civitavecchia. If you are returning to Rome after the cruise, buy the return ticket at the same time. But be careful here. There are both Regionale and higher-speed trains that make this run. Regionale train tickets are good for 60 days and are good on any Regionale train makeing the run during that period. For the faster trains, you will need to have a seat reservation. The seat reservation comes with the purchase of the ticket but you will have to know precisely what train you will be on. On the return to Rome, you will find a large crowd disembarking and heading for the train. Many will be in the ticket line. Just be sure which ticket you are buying. To illustrate my point, <a href="http://orario.trenitalia.com/b2c/nppPriceTravelSolutions.do?car=A&stazin=rome&stazout=civitavecchia&datag=25&datam=08&dataa=2010&timsh=10&datag_r=30&datam_r=08&dataa_r=2010&timsh_r=10&stazin_r=civitavecchia&stazout_r=rome&timsm=16&timsm_r=16&lang=en&nreq=5&channel=tcom&npag=1&lang_r=en&nreq_r=5&channel_r=tcom&npag_r=1&x=37&y=13&quot;&gt;CLICK HERE</a> to see a sample train schedule. Under the train column, R is for Regionale, EScity is a high-speed. Notice the difference in fares and journey time. If you buy Regionale tickets, you are much safer. Just don't hop on a high-speed.
