Travel from Italy to Switzerland

I am sooo confused. I am trying to figure out a train to get us from Varenna, Italy up to Zurich. When I put in a date (9/30/10) on the train schedule link it tells me that booking is not possible. What am I doing wrong? Also it tells me my travel time is 15-18 hours! How can this be right? Looking at the map, it looks like it is only approximately 3-4 hours. Help please!

Your fastest route (5hr14min) is Varenna-Esino to Zuerich with a connection at Milano Centrale, leaving Varenna at 07:37. Later in the day you'll need to add one hour to the total time for the same route because of a longer connection time in Milano.

The 2nd class fare on a regional train from Varenna-Esino to Milano is 5.10 EUR. Buy your ticket in Varenna.

The standard 2nd class fare for Milano-Zuerich is 92 CHF (68 EUR). However, if you book well in advance (up to 90 days) on the Swiss Rail site, you can get a discount fare as low as 30 CHF (22 EUR).

The Swiss Rail site will show you timetables for the entire route.
