I just read a posting and checked American Express, it looks like it does not cover Ireland. I read Rick Steve's comment about getting insurance for rental cars in Ireland. We are renting from Budget. Should I take out there insurance or will my Mastercard cover it? Thanks
I have been looking online, has anyone rented from Argus-rentacar?
Your Mastercard likely won't cover it, either. I always get the super CDW available from the rental counter. It might cost a bit more than other options, but if something were to happen I wouldn't have to pay upfront and wait to reimbursed.
Visa won't cover rentals in Ireland, so I doubt that Mastercard will.
Many on this board recommend purchasing Super CDW from 3rd party insurers (it's cheaper that way), but I agree with Nancy. For the least hassle if something goes wrong - and the greatest peace of mind - buy it from car rental company. I know it's a rip-off, but when I'm renting in a foreign country, it's a rip-off I accept.
In 2005 my World MasterCard provided coverage in Ireland. (It had to be a World MasterCard, not just any MasterCard). Check your Master Rental Agreement to see if that is still true.
While I declined CDW coverage in 2005, if I were to rent a car in Ireland again I might get excess insurance from someone like www.insurance4carhire.com. It should be cheaper than getting it from the rental company.
