How about telling us how long your layover is, and which terminal. Heathrow has four terminals.
And are you sure you arrive and depart from the same terminal?

Unless you have alot of time, stayin in the airport is best. With 6 to 7 hours you can catch a taxi to Windsor and see the town, but probably not tour the castle. Heathrow is a huge airport, with lots of shopping and restruants. There are also lounges where you can pay and have access to quiet reading areas and some even have showers. If you have 10 to 12 hours or more, you could pop into London are a meal and a wander.
