we arrive on a thursday in september. How quickly to get thru customs and get baggage at fumicino? We booked tours without thinking duh.

Customs in Rome is a snap, there isn't even a customs form you have to fill out. Baggage can take a while (it took about 45 minutes in mid-June) but once you get it no problem. Be sure to allow at least an hour to get in town from the airport though.

I've never been stopped at customs, but baggage did take awhile. Remember to allow time for getting through passport control, too. Sometimes the lines are long.
