After our Rick Steves tour we will be going from Paris to Zurich to visit a foreign exchange student for a few days. After Zurich, we will be taking a night train to Dresden. We want to conserve time. Is it better to take the train or plane from Paris to Zurich, or are their any other alternatives?

If you book Paris-Zurich ASAP (up to three months in advance) at www.tgv-europe.com, you can get a Piccolo fare as low as €36. To keep the site in English and to avoid being bumped to the Rail Europe site which doesn't offer discount fares, choose Great Britain as your country of residence.
To get a Savings fare on the direct City Night Line train from Zurich to Dresden, book ASAP (up to 92 days in advance) at www.bahn.de. Click on the drop-down flag menu for English.
