Northern Ireland

Is Northern Ireland included on the Britrail pass since it is considered part of Great Britain? If so, where is the best place to cross over by ferry?

We are planning to purchase two Britrail Flexipasses because our 15 year-old grandson can travel free with an adult purchased pass on this particular pass. We are guessing that this pass does not include Northern Ireland.

Thanks for your info!

If you're traveling by train, probably the easiest way is from Stranraer to Belfast. It takes a couple or three hours and stiffs you about fifty pounds per head round trip. Fiddle with directferries.co.uk if you want to explore other options.

Thanks, you are correct. It is called the United Kingdom.

We are trying to plan a historical trip to that area for our 15-year-old grandson since this is his last year he can go on a free Britrail pass. We took him to Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands last year using a Euralrail pass for rail and a cruise. We had bought the pass from Rick Steves and used his travel book also for planning. My husband had a business meeting in Amsterdam, so we tagged along using passes. The year before that my husband had a meeting in Prague and we took our grandson and added a day in Vienna by train. This will be his third trip. Next year will be another grandchild's turn.

We took our older granddaughter (who is in college now) for three trips the years before that. She got to visit many European countries and Ghana too.
