buy train tickets now or wait?

Does anyone know is it cheaper to buy a train ticket now on line or wait a few day until you leave?
We are leaving Edenburgh to manchester via train in June.
Any help would be great. We'd be leaving on a Friday late afternoon.

In the UK, it's generally a better idea to book as far ahead as possible, since fares will go up. Instead of National Express (which tends to be the more expensive option), you could try the East Coast trains (eastcoast.co.uk). Otherwise, if you want to travel from Manchester around the local area, you can take megabus (megabus.com).

To get the cheapest fare (around £12), book well in advance on the East Coast site. It accepts US credit cards. The farthest ahead booking date is shown on the right-hand side of the home page. Discount fare tickets are released about 12 weeks in advance. If the farthest out booking date on the East Coast site doesn't show discount fares, then try an earlier date.
