Hello to all and thanks in advance for any advise. What recommendations can anyone give us for a hotel in Munich near the airport?

Some people on this website recommend Hotel Zur Gred (www.hotelzurgred.de) in Freising (DZ, €88). Freising is about as close (15 min, €2,40 bus trip) as you can get to the airport without actually staying at the airport ($$$). In September, I stayed at another, less expensive, Pension in Freising, but it might not be appropriate for you. I don't know if they speak English.

Is it essential that you stay close to the airport? It only takes half an hour or so to reach the airport from the central station via the S-Bahn (S1 or S8).

Agreed with Ken. You can easily stay a block from the Viktualienmarkt and take the S-Bahn to the airport in the morning.
Near the markt I like Pension Siebel.

I always throw Hotel Uhland out there as a recommendation…it’s about a 15 minute walk from the Munich Hauptbahnhof. I’ve stayed there before when I had a flight out the next morning.
