Looking to travel from Lake Bled to Venice in September, any suggestions greatly appreciated!
Train is an easy option, but make sure you route through Villach. Hit the "details" button on Trenitalia or Obb, and you can see the route.
The south train routes through Ljubljana are a hassle. You have to disembark at the boarder, bus 45 mins to Trieste's main station, then board another train. Bit much if you have bags or kids. (The tracks were wiped out in WWII and never replaced).
Buses are good in the area, but usually leave quite early going towards Venice, and I think they only go as far as Mestere from Lju. (At least they used to, that could be out of date.)
Car is pricey (drop off fees), but if you're renting one for another reason, it's a very easy, all freeway drive right up to the last few miles, and the rental return places in Venice as easy to get to.
For an adventure, you can bus down to Piran, and then take the ferry. Check out Venezia Lines of just Google, "Venice Ferry" to see some options. FYI - they don't run every day of the week.
Hope that helps! :)
If you want some advice on things to do along that route, let me know!
