WE will be taking a train to Florence from the CT area and want to pick up a car in Florence to tour Tuscan area. SInce we will be flying out of Florence we need advice on where the best location is to rent a car. Ive read that there are extra charges when you rent at the airport. Would this still be the best choice since we will need to return it to the airport? If we do rent at the airport, what is the best way to get to the rental place from the train station?

Taxi from the train station to the airport. Makes sense to rent from the airport since you have to return it there. The airport is not that far, compared to many airports.

Angela, the only choices are to pick up a car in the city center or at the airport, as I recall. You do not want to drive in or out of the city center because of restricted zones. Rent at the airport. We are renting at the airport in September to drive to our farm apartment in Tuscany. I do not remember that we paid extra charges for renting at the airport. Check Kemwel and/or AutoEurope for good rates.
