Train from Livorno to Florence

We plan on taking the train from the port of Livorno to Florence as one of our port of calls. What is the best way to do this? Is there a train station close to the port?

Gary, the Livorno Centrale is a short distance from the port (about 1/2 mile). Trains to Florence run about once an hour. Same on the return. CLICK HERE to see what I see.

Larry, thanks so much for your quick reply. We were on Google Earth and weren't sure about the walking distance from where our ship, Ruby Princess, will dock.

Larry,

Can these type of tickets (regional) be purchased in advanced? Tried to do a dry run and site said not able to purchase but maybe I was doing something wrong?

Bet it is "cattle" call at the station with all the cruise passengers.

Thanks.

BJ, even if you could purchase a ticket on Trenitalia, which we can't with American credit cards, they don't seem to sell Regionale tickets in advance. You will bump into a crowd coming off the ship. One suggestion is to drop by a train station on a previous shore excursion while in Italy and buy the Regionale ticket. Of course that's just what you wanted to do on your shore excursion. Or, if you arrive in Rome before going onboard, you can do it then. The Regionale ticket is an open ticket that is good for 60 days. No train number or time on the ticket. You can take any R train making the run within the 60 days. Just validate your ticket and hop on.
