3 or 4 country train pass in Europe?

Hi,

My family and I will be traveling to 3 different countries by train...Switzerland, Germany, Italy. I was planning on purchasing the 3 country Select Saver pass. However, I noticed that we have to travel THROUGH Austria to get from Munich to Florence. Does this mean that I have to purchase the 4 country pass? We will not be getting off the train in Austria...just traveling through there to go to Italy.

Thank you.

You will need either a railpass that includes Austria, a point to point ticket through Austria, or regular fare tickets from Munich to Florence. Check on the Bahn website. You might be able to get a "Euro-Sparpreis Italien" fare for as low as €32,50 pP on the EuroCity train that leaves Munich at 9:33 for Florence.

Thanks Lee for your response. I purchased the 4 country pass. Now I'm just confused on the seat reservations. I just posted about it though and hope to get a response soon.

Here's my post in case you might be able to help as well:

"Hi,

I don't understand how seat reservations work. Doesn't my 4 country pass guarantee a seat? What if I get on the train without a reservation and sit in a seat? Will I get kicked out of it and have to stand the whole trip? When should I make a reservation?

Thanks for any help you can give me."
