train from Venice to Rome

Hi,
I will need to take a train from Venice to Rome. Is it advisable to book in advance, or can I buy it in Venice a couple of days before the departure and be guaranteed a seat. I will be travelling on a Saturday. I found Trenitalia a little confusing.

Thanks in advance,
Tom

I would feel confident buying a couple of days ahead in Venice.

Just keep in mind that being confident and being absolutely sure are 2 very different things. If you absolutely positvely MUST be on a particular train on a particular day then for your own peace of mind I would advise to book it as soon as possible. On the other hand if you are flexible then wait.

That's a question that no one can really answer for you.

There are at least 15 trains/day between Venice and Rome plus one direct night train. Unles you're traveling on a holiday, you'll have no trouble getting a seat. Go to the station when you arrive in Venice and ask for an Amica fare (20% discount). If any of the allotted seats are available, you can get that fare up to midnight of the day before departure.
