layover in munich

My husband and I are traveling to Sorrento (Naples airport) through Munich with a six hour layover. Does anyone have a suggestion for using the time well?

Munich is a lovely town. You should go into Marienplatz. However, understand that the airport is remote, and if you have to figure in traveltime downtown. There is an S-Bahn from the airport into town; the quickest S-bahn is the S-8 dirctly into Marieplatz. It it take about 40 minutes. S-1 goes a longer route, through the Hbf, but it leaves 10 minute earlier, so just take the next S-Bahn.

Marienplatz is the town square. There is a lot to see there if you have a lot of time; you don't. Look around, then head back to the airport. Make sure you figure travel time (40 min) plus check in time when you decide how long to stay.

Marienplatz is in front of the Rathaus (city hall) where there is a lovely glockenspiel and a great restaurant. The best shopping area in Germany runs both directions from the Marienplatz and is a pedestrian zone teaming with...pedestrians. A great old church, a farmer's market (Viktuellenmarkt), the landmark Frauenkirche, beer halls, quaint German restaurants, the Feldherrenhalle and more are within ten minutes walk of the Marienplatz. It is a great idea.
