My wife and I after spending a few days in Paris, are spending 3 nights in Beaune. I am unsure whether to rent a car in Paris and drive to Beaune and surrounding areas, and then back, or is it best to take a train to and from Paris and just rent the car in Beaune? Thank you!
If you won't need a car the first day you're in Beaune, then you might save some money by booking train tickets well in advance (up to three months allowed) in order to get a discount fare. The standard 2nd class fare for a TGV from Paris to Dijon plus a regional train from Dijon to Beaune is €59.10. The lowest discount fare is €22.30. There are some tricks involved in booking in English on the tgv-europe site without being bumped to the Rail Europe site which doesn't offer discount fares. If you want to know more, just ask.
Hi Craig...We travel to Burgundy a lot and we pick up our car at Orly..it is easy to return if you put a marker on the GPS. Also, Burgundy is a lovely area...but there is more to it than Beaune. make sure you see the Burgundy canal, wonderful villages like Noyers, Semur en Auxois, Chateauneuf-en-Auxois, Montreal, Flavigny.....I could go on and on. if you want some wonderful accommodations, send me a PM.By the way we are neighbors. I live in Lebanon, OH.
