Simplest and fastest (if traffic conditions are right) is a direct National Express coach. Scheduled time is 1hr15min, but traffic congestion can double that. Fare is £19.50.
Cheaper but longer is to take the Tube (Piccadilly Line to Hammersmith and District Line to Victoria) for £4.00, then a Southern train from Victoria to Gatwick for £10.90. Time is one hour from Heathrow to Victoria and 40 minutes from Victoria to Gatwick.
Allow five hours between your scheduled arrival at Heathrow and your scheduled departure from Gatwick. If your plane is late at LHR, or if there is a long line at immigration/passport control, or if there are traffic delays, you'll need all the margin you can get.
