I have been trying to book a night train on DB and It tells me I must call and will not even give a fare from Berlin to Krakow. Am i doing something wrong with the internet location.
First, there is no night train all the way from Berlin to Krakow. I do see a connection with an EN (EuroNight) from Berlin to Warsaw, but the rest is via another train from Warsaw to Krakow. Generally, German Rail does not book segments entirely outside Germany online. They will book it for you, just not online. That is why you would have to call.
If you really want to book something online, I believe they can do the night train. Then you can either book the continuation in Warsaw or in Berlin when you get there. I've never done much with the Polish Rail website. It might only be in Polish, or it might not have online booking.
I found an all night train on rail europe and several other locations such as euraide that goes out of the smaller Berlin station unless I am reading it wrong and it appears to be a no change train. Am I reading all this incorrectly. Thanks
I think you are reading it correctly. I missed it because I saw D and NEX and thought it was two trains, but they just change the designation in Poland. Why doesn't DB sell tickets online? I don't know. Possibly because it is not a German train and they don't have online access to the Polish Rail database, but they can access it in the travel office.
Calling German Rail is no big thing; I think they always have English speakers available, although you might be put on hold for a few minutes until one is free. If you don't want to call DB, RailEurope shows fares, so you know you will not have to pay more than that. It appears that the price through Euraide may be less (they charge the counter price over there), but you will have to add $50 for them to ship the tickets over here.
No, you're not reading it wrong at all....but your best bet is still to call bahn.de....you might get a better price. There is the train you mentioned, D 345 from Berlin-Lichtenberg to Krakow, leaving at 9:38 pm and arriving at 9:00 am with sleeping accommodations. As Lee said, they'll book it for you, but only give you the price over the phone....probably a deal with the Polish national rail system. Call them at 011-49-1805-141-514. See the Bahn night train website at http://www.db-nachtzug.de/nachtzugreise/view/en/index.shtml
I'm guessing that if German Rail can't book this online because they have to mechanically check availability, that the same goes for RailEurope and Euraide. Therefore, any reservations through RE or Euraide are probably tentative pending confirmation with Polish Rail. As Norm says, your best bet is probably to call DB.
The website for Polish Rail is www.pkp.pl. It's all in Polish, but if you know any, you might be able to book through them. I was able to find the train on the schedule (the website is by Hafas, and works like any other of their websites), but I couldn't see how to purchase online, or if I even could.
