Is it easy to just 'hop on' a ferry from Calais to Dover? Is there anything special we need to be aware of when doing this? We are renting a car in Dover, does anyone know if we will need transportation to the car rental place or is there one right there by the Ferry docks close enough to walk to?

You may check out all of them online by going to www.google.com and, using the web mode, type into the search box CALAIS TO DOVER FERRY SERVICE... (An interesting historical note:- the inventor of the diesel engine, Rudolf Diesel, fell overboard on just such a ferry crossing. He was not rescued, unfortunately. So watch yourself!) bon voyage! ... P
