Assuming I do carryon luggage so nothing is checked can i take the first flight and just get off in Rome and save a ton of money with out creating problems for myself?
NO! The rest of your flight itinerary will be cancelled and you will have to waste a lot of money to purchase another ticket home.
You will void your return flight and have to buy a one way ticket home from Rome for a lot more. Take the flight to MXP and rail to Rome, on a 6 week trip is it that big a deal? They are only about 3 1/2 hours apart and the savings are substantial. Emirates entry into the market is the reason for the deal, so take it while it lasts.
