We are arriving in Frankfurt 4 days prior to our ETBD tour. We are going to rent a car and wondering if we should just return the car to Frankfurt or try and find rental return location close to St Goar, the first stop of the tour.

We [husband, teen daughter, and I] did that a couple of years ago, sightseeing around Heilbronn and in Alsace before our GAS tour began. We returned the car to Hahn airport [figuring it would be easy to find] and took a taxi to St Goar; that seemed simpler than trying to return the care in a town and catch a train to St Goar, and it worked out well for us. I can't remember the price for the taxi, but I found some taxi companies on the Hahn airport site and got estimates from them so I knew what to expect.

Most of the major rental car companies (Sixt, Europcar, Hertz, Avis) have an outlet at Koblenz train station which isn't too far from St. Goar.
