Dale, there are no taxis from the Venice train station. In fact, no cars at all. The train station is on one of the 118 or so Venice islands surrounded by canals and water. The trains travel on a bridge across the lagoon to get there. The front of the train station is on the Grand Canal. That being said, you can walk about 500' to the Piazzale Roma where you can take a taxi to the airport. Or, you can take one of the two airport bus lines from the Piazzale Roma. 7Euro. What time is your flight?

I did not think I could take a taxi to the airport in Venice? Someone told me a water taxi only?

Dale, confirming that you can take either a bus or taxi from the Piazzale Roma which is the last vaporetto stop on the Grand Canal. 20 minutes to the airport. The water taxi does exist. It's a private taxi that will cost 90E-110E for up to 6-8 people with luggage. If your flight departs at 6:30-7:00, you need to know your options on how to get to the airport. In some cases, you may need the water taxi.

There are three basic ways to get from Venice to the airport: 1. Water taxi. Expensive (~€100), but easy and convenient, as it will pick up from a dock at or very close to your hotel. 2. Alilaguna. This is a boat that makes a few stops in Venice before going to the airport (there are several routes). One way fare is €14, round trip fare is €25. More information: http://www.alilaguna.it/en 3. Vaporetto and then bus (or taxi). You can take a standard vaporetto (the "water bus" that is the mainstay of Venice transportation) to Piazzale Roma. From P. Roma, you can take a bus (cheap) or a land taxi (not cheap) to the airport. If you take the vaporetto then bus, this is the cheapest way (about €12, less if you still have an active vaporetto pass), and may even be faster than the Alilaguna, but of course it's not a "one seat ride." As said above, a big factor is when is your plane leaving? Many flights that are connecting to the US leave at very early hours, and you definitely have to have a plan if you need to be at the airport at 5 AM. You'll have to look at first vaporetto times, first bus times, first Alilaguna times, and then balance this against the ease and cost of a water taxi.
