Alhambra in Granada

Does any one know why the advance ticket sale for the Alhambra have been discontinued after July 31, 2007? There is no explaination and no alternative to obtaining them.

The website message says;
"Following instructions issued by THE ALAMBRA AND GENERALIFE'S BOARD OF TRUSTEES, and due to the forthcoming termination of the convention. THE EARLY SALES OF TICKETS FOR VISETS LATER THAN 31, JULY 2007 IS ADJOURNED."

From what I have heard, it appears that the agreement between the Alhambra and the Spanish bank, BBVA, to sell tickets over the internet expires at the end of July....so the website, which is really run by BBVA, isn't accepting any reservations for after that date. You may or may not be able to still get reservations by phone 011 34 91 537 9178, between 9 and 5 CET (3 am-11 am EDT) but be prepared to wait on hold. You may want to check out the province of Granada's website at http://www.turgranada.es/index.php?id_idioma=2 and contact them to see if anything else is being set up. The Regional government of Andalucia, which has jurisdiction over the site, has absolutely no information about this, and no way of contacting them. You can always try at the door....30% of ticket sales are set aside for same-day sale....but be at the front ticket area by 8 am.

As an afterthought, if you really want to ensure you'll get in (and it's a good idea...it was busy the last time I was there, and that was November!) then you can book one of the many tours offered by private companies. Just do a google search for Alhambra tours and you'll find lots. They can be pricey, but the Alhambra isn't a sight to be missed.
