We plan to take an overnight train from Munich to Venice. Is it cheaper to fly from Munich to Italy? I'm not sure if flights go TO Venice but Florence? Or Rome? Any thoughts? Overnight train is about 266 for a two passenger sleeper.

Air Dolomiti fly direct, with prices around €105. A direct daytime train, Eurocity EC87, departs Munich 11.31, arrives Venice 18.10 and costs from €39 if you can book 3 months in advance, more like €90 if you can't. There is also an 07.31 departure going direct to Venice, train EC1289, arriving 13.56. See www.bahn.com to buy tickets.

That €39 ticket Kevin mentions is a great deal. It is very easy to purchase these on Bahn.de but you do need to plan ahead.
