Paris to Dover

Paris to Dover (for cruise) and back to Paris in August 2013- Is it better to take the eurostar from Paris to Ashford then to Dover or Travel to Calis (how?)and take a ferry across the channel to Dover? Thank You!!

The car-carrying trains are COMPLETELY unrelated to Eurostar and don't take foot passengers. You can still go from Paris to Calais by train - check times and fares on www.tgv-europe.com. Note that the tiny number of Eurostar trains that call at Calais stop at the isolated Calais-Frethun station - you want the traditional Calais-Ville station if you're taking a ferry. If you want to go all the way by train, another issue is that most Paris-London trains are non-stop due to SNCF favouritism over Brussels. Depending on time of day, you may have to go all the way to St Pancras and then take one of the domestic high-speed trains from St Pancras to Dover. But check on the Eurostar website to see if there's one that stops at Ashford.

Ashford International to Dover Priory is 29 minutes on a Southeastern train service and costs around £10. Calais to Dover on the ferry would be 90 minutes and unless you found a special offer or promotional fare I'm sure it would cost you more than that. Dover Priory station to your ship is a taxi ride.

Ray, when you drove under the Channel on the Eurotunnel service you drove onto the train in Folkestone, not Dover. Paris - Ashford - Dover Priory and taxi or decent walk is almost certainly easier for Jim. Be aware that fewer and fewer Eurostars are now stopping at Ashford International. At the moment, only the 10:13, the 15:13 and the 19:13 from Paris stop there.
