Going on the Rick Steves 12-day Switzerland tour next August. What suggestions do you have for a 3-4 night pre-trip itinerary? Thanks!

Have you booked any flights yet or identified what is likely? Are you leaning toward doing something within Switzerland or stopping off en route (in which case knowing where you are flying from would be helpful).

We just got back. You are going to have the best time! It's an amazing tour. You'll see and experience a lot. We went to Colmar/Strasbourg, France for 4 days prior (about 1 1/12 hours by train.) Then we went back up to the Alps for 4 nights after the tour; staying in Wengen since the tour stays in Murren. We were so glad we did!

If you were to fly into Bern (I don’t know if you can easily from where you depart) you could be there 1 night or go straight through), then go to Zermatt, 2/3 nights (so 1/2 full day(s) to see the Matterhorn, hopefully) and then back to Luzern to start the tour. By train Bern - Zermatt is 2 hours 15, Zermatt-Luzern about 3,5. Or fly into Geneva and see that city, then to Zermatt. But Geneva - Zermatt is almost 4 hours, maybe that’s too much?
