What constitutes "knee length" on the Best of Tuscany tour?

I will be going on the Best of Tuscany tour in May. I like to wear dresses and want to make sure I understand what "knee length" means when entering a church. Can the dress stop at the top of your knee or must the entire knee be covered? Thanks.

Much depends on the church and who is enforcing the dress code, some are much more strict than others. I'd err on the side of covering your entire knee or forgoing a questionable length dress and wearing capri pants instead. You also need to cover your shoulders in some places so make sure you have a scarf that you can drape over anything sleeveless.

This YouTube explains the dress code at the Vatican - one of the more strict places (discussion on clothing starts at about the 3 minute mark) https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=wy4grmNJx8c

The dress codes are for modesty and respect: shoulders and knees must be covered. So, wear whatever meets those requirements.

Thanks. I know St. Peter's is strict about below the knee but was not sure about Florence or other cities.

The dress code is the same for all churches.

The major/larger tourist attraction Cathedrals, Duomos etc, will have enforcement at the door. Staff also circulate within the Church to monitor for compliance.

Some of the lesser touristed or smaller churches leave one to comply on the honor system.

When we were in Florence, it was a 'no nonsense no slack' approach to code enforcement.
