We are arriving at the Venice airport and are going on a cruise to Turkey a couple of days later. What I have found out is that the water taxi is $200. Does that sound like a reasonable price?
Haven't decided on a hotel, but we know we don't want to spend a lot on transportation.
Any ideas?
Thanks
No, it sound quite a bit higher than normal. Have never heard of a price that steep. You will be better off to just take a regular land taxi to Piazzale Roma and then a vaporetto from there to the area of your hotel. Even cheaper is taking the bus in from the airport and then the vaporetto. Let us know the hotel you select and someone on this board will be able to give very specific directions.
€120 is about the maximum you should expect unless special services are provided for a water taxi from the airport to any address in Venice.
I wonder who is pocketing the other €80 or €90?
I didn't know they allow vehicles in Venice.
Cars and buses can go across the bridge and as far as Piazzale Roma or the Tronchetto parking lot. No further.
Not sure what hotel to get, hopefully someone can comment on where they stayed which was close to the cruise lines.
I'm not sure if you are going straight from the airport to the cruise port, or if you are staying in Venice.
If you are going from the airport straight to the cruise, the Alilaguna runs from Marco Polo airport to the cruise port and online purchase is 14 euros.
If you are staying in Venice, we got a great deal on the "small" double at the Hotel Campiello. Again the Alilaguna can be taken from this area to the port.
We have a couple of days to blow in Venice, Friday afternoon and Saturday. Board the ship on Sunday.
What is the Alilaguna?
We will be ordering the Istanbul book on line for place to stay, eat and visit.
The Alilaguna is a scheduled boat service with many stops (but not as many as the vaporetto which is like a bus but on water).
Here is a good link on information for Visitors in Venice,http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/venice_transportation.htm
Last fall I used a private Taxi service, specifically to be able to stand in the rear of the boat and enjoy the cruise through the Grand Canal from the train station to the Vaporetto Stop near my B&B (B&B Zaguri near S.M. Giglio stop). The link is,http://www.motoscafivenezia.it/eng/. It was about $100 for up to five persons, there were only two of us.
Through the Venice Link, http://www.venicelink.com/index.php?page=shop.browse&category_id=10&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=43&lang=english&vmcchk=1&Itemid=43, there is a Shared Water Taxi for $62 a couple. You would need to review their Stops to see if it is near the hotel or B&B you choose.
And of course there is the Water Bus as described in the Venice for Visitors link.
I have never thought the water taxis were reasonable. You should go cheaper and buy a Venice Tourist Travel Card. Choose how many days you want it for (it is a LOT cheaper) and you will have unlimited riding. These are water buses and like getting a cruise right in Venice! See more about them at www.eurocheapo.com/blog/venice-save-on-vaporetto-tickets-with-a-tourist-travel-card.html It is a very good deal.
