Wardrobe - July - 14 Day Scandinavia Tour

Well, I wasn't on the Rick Steves tour, but I was in Stockholm and Norway in July of this year. I can tell you that Stockholm was hot, high 70s/low 80's for the first two days, and then it dropped to low to mid-70's the third day. However, it was also during a major heat wave in Europe, so that certainly affected things. Norway was comfortable. It was generally high 60s most of the time, although there were a few times where it got a bit chillier, but a lightweight jacket over a long-sleeved top suited me fine most of the time.

Your best bet is to just bring layers. That's what I did on this trip. I had some very lightweight long-sleeve tops that I could wear with a cardigan or a lightweight rain jacket over it. I also had a couple of short-sleeve tops, and those were the ones that I wore in Stockholm, but I did not wear them in Iceland or Norway. In those countries, you really have to be prepared for anything. Just layer, layer, layer. 😊

Thanks very much. Appreciate the quick response! Layers...always the best bet, yes! I recall being Paris during the dreadful 2003 heat wave and have generally avoided Europe in the summer ever since. However, since this tour was selling quickly, I had to take a July departure, so was curious.

For what it is worth, I was in Stockholm in mid-July, and then went to Norway after that through the end of the month.

But who knows what next summer will bring? Seriously, it's just been so chaotic that you really can't predict the weather anymore. I would just go with layers, like I said. Plan for everything. 😊

My husband and I took the tour last month and experienced a variety of weather. The weather was beautiful (70s to low 80s and sunny) in Sweden and Denmark. Norway was another matter; it rained every day we were there, including a thunderstorm in Oslo and relentless rain in Bergen. It was also quite cold (upper 40s to 50s) in Bergen and while taking the boat along the Sognefjord. We were glad we had brought layers (echoing Mardee's recommendation here) but I regretted not having brought waterproof shoes. I had also packed an ear headband that at the time I thought was overkill, but it ended up coming in very handy. Some of our tourmates hadn't brought waterproofs anything and had to do some shopping. To me, all this was preferable to being caught in a heatwave!

I was in Norway late June and early July for 3 weeks. We did both Oslo ( warm, almost hot due to
humidity) and western fjords. It only rained one day for which I was thankful for waterproof jacket and I mostly wore short sleeved tops, occasionally lightweight sweater over shoulders. Like Mardee said, layers, layers. No need for anything seriously warm unless next year is totally different from the last several years.

My wife and I went to Scandinavia over 30 years ago, before Global Warming was even being discussed. It happened to be very hot in all 4 countries on our independent trip, and there was almost no air conditioning.

Tim, global warming has been discussed and researched for over 200 years by scientists and there has been public awareness of it for almost 50 years.

Regardless, I'm not sure how temperatures from 30 years ago are going to help the OP. Honestly, I don't even think my report of 2026 temperatures is going to help, because the weather is just changing so much.

Hi there, yes definitely layers & especially waterproof outer layer, because you never know! Especially when you get on boats, it can get cold quickly. I would take a light weight Gore Tex packable raincoat (several on sale under "Forum packing thread), a baseball type cap if you put up hood to be able to see well, headband that covers ears (very light weight), light weight gloves, cotton or wool scarf & sorry but hiking boots.
