Waitlisted: what if you don't go?

Hi everyone,

If you're wait listed for a tour for the end of the year , and you don't get on it, what happens to the deposit? Does it go towards 2016?

Rick Steves Tours don't take a deposit for joining the Waitlist. When you first start the request online, you'll initially see the $400 deposit in the shopping cart, but that is converted to $0 before you finish the process.

Diane, last year we were waitlisted for a Best of Sicily tour. When I signed us up, the tour was "Filling Fast." Turns out there was only one spot, and I had reserved two places. The nice person at the RS office who called us about this, suggested we go ahead and sign up for a later tour, but stay on the waitlist for the one we wanted. That would cover the bases. We did pay the deposit for the second tour, but stayed on the waitlist for the first one. As it happened, after several weeks we decided to go with the sure thing, since it was time to buy plane tickets and reserve pre- and post-tour hotels. But the folks at RS couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. If it's important to you to take a trip this year, you might consider adding an alternate date. It worked for us.
