We are taking the RS tour - Heart of Italy, and then going on to Sicily on our own for four nights. We are going to Mount Etna and then to Vizzini. Our fathers' family is from Vizzini. Has anyone attempted to look at family records while visiting a city? Then we are going to Siracusa. We would appreciate any insight or recommendations for these cities. Thank you!

For Siracusa, stay with n Ortigia Island, the heart of the original Greek settlement. Good luck with your family research.Friends went to parish churches for records.

Another vote for Ortigia! We are headed back in the fall. We were last there in 2014. It's well worth a visit to this magical town (our favorite). We will be near Vizzini on the last leg of our journey. How great to visit the town of your family's ancestry! Will you be staying in Vizzini or perhaps Catania? I can recommend a couple of accommodations for Catania and Ortigia. We will be staying at the same B&B in Ortigia that we used the last time. The B&B arranged a day tour driver who took us to the Barogue towns of Noto, Ragusa and Modica. PM me for info.
