Village Italy vs Best of Tuscany tour?

Has anyone taken both of these tours and have a preference or opinion to share? I found a thread from about a year ago on this topic but it's now locked and only had two brief replies. Neither of these tours has an entry in the 2023 Scrapbook Contest.

I've been leaning towards Best of Tuscany since it includes Florence as well as several smaller towns but it's booked for the fall and Village Italy still has a few openings. So it may come down to a waitlist and crossing my fingers vs a guaranteed spot.

I went on Village Italy last May and it was excellent. But I don’t think you can go wrong. I’ve been on nine RS tours and they have all been great.

At least one person in our Vllage Italy tour added a few days in Florence on her own before our tour started - something you might consider.

John, I’ve done both and they are completely different. I’m redoing the Village Italy tour this fall. It will be my first repeat tour . I think you’d really enjoy it. Hopefully you can eventually do both, but if I had to choose just one it would be the Village Italy. I like that it goes to the Cinque Terre. The great thing about the Tuscany tour is after you leave Florence, you are off the beaten path for the most part, until returning to Lucca at the end. You can PM me with any specific questions. You can’t go wrong with either tour!

I have not done the Village Italy tour, but I did the Best of Tuscany in 2022 during its first year. My review may not be super helpful because my understanding is that they have made several changes to the tour since its first year (probably for the better!). I enjoyed the tour, but it's not one of my favorites (Best of South Italy, Best of Scotland). Overall, I liked almost all of the cities & places we visited, but had issues with the amount of time we had in certain places. Some of the visits were too rushed - in Pienza and Pitigliano, we only had a bit of time after a guided tour to explore the town. And because we weren't staying in either place, we all had to get back on the bus (Pitigliano in particular was a long drive out of the way). I did love where we stayed outside Pienza (La Moscadella), but my understanding is they are now requiring a minimum length stay so the tour can't stay there - bummer! Elba was skippable to me. The hotel there was not good, and I think there were only 2 hotels big enough for the RS tour. However, many of these issues seem to have been resolved, since it looks like the 2024 & 2025 tours don't go to Elba, stay in or near Pitigliano, etc.

I still enjoyed the tour, but I've learned my lesson to not do an RS tour in its first year! I'll wait until more of the kinks are worked out first. I'm taking the Best of Italy tour this year and looking forward to a combination of revisiting some places and exploring new ones, but based on how much people seem to love Village Italy, it's definitely on my list! So, I would say go for the Village Italy tour! Lucca was one of my favorites on the Tuscany tour, and it's part of Village Italy too.

anna's comments are the same as when I asked the forum last year about the Best of Tuscany tour. Not horribly negative, but not real positive. But opinions on the Village Italy were all positive and still are. So I am taking the Village Italy tour in September. I am also spending five nights in Venice pre-tour and four nights in Florence and five in Rome post-tour. I recommend you add your desired few days in Florence after the Village Italy tour and a couple nights in Venice beforehand to work through any jetlag.

Thanks all for the advice! I think I'll go on the Village Italy this September, getting to Padua from the Dolomites where I plan to start my vacation.
